Wedding Pictures

I still haven’t gotten the CD of professional pictures that the photographer at our wedding took, but here are a few of the ceremony that my maid of honor took.

I don’t have any of the actual ceremony, because no one was allowed to take pictures except the photographer. I’m also having trouble loading some that […]

New Weight Loss Wonder Drug?

Just when you think they’ve tried everything…
Dr. Nir Barak of Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine has developed a weight loss drug based on a betahistine given to patients with vertigo. Apparently, it suppresses appetite and the desire to eat fatty foods. Hurrah!
The results were rather impressive, with those consuming the drug Histalean over […]

Oreo Pizza For Dessert?

Diet-Blog had a post this week on Dominos’ new Oreo dessert pizza. You’ve probably seen the commercial - two men sitting around with these Oreo beards and mustaches and one reassuring the other that although his mustache is a little thin, “It’ll grow, Kevin. Give it time.” My husband thinks it’s hilarious - and he […]

Check This Out - Illustrated BMI Categories

here’s an interesting set of photos on Flickr that I think y’all should see. It’s called Illustrated BMI Categories and it shows photos of people at various BMIs, from underweight to morbidly obese. Some may surprise you.
I think this is trying to make a point that the BMI system is a poor way of determining […]

No Bread On Low Carb? Think Again!

I’ll admit that one of the things I’ve been missing most about a high-carb diet is the bread. Soft, chewy and yeasty…it constantly calls my name. I don’t always want a piece of cake, but give me a sandwich and I’ll have a tough time resisting.
So, I decided to have a go at baking some […]

Vanity Sizing: What’s Your Take?

Wearing a size 6 back in 1971? You better have a 22-inch waist!
Sometimes it really amazes me how big sizes have gotten in recent years. While I was in Salt Lake City, I visited a fabulous vintage store called Decades, and it was really an eye-opener. Among things I noticed - a dress that had […]

Is Counting Calories a Thing of the Past?

An article at MSNBC seems to think so. They say that when people focus on calories, they end up consuming low-fat foods (such as 100 Calorie Packs, my nemesis) that are ultimately unsatisfying.
I tend to agree. I counted calories for years and thought I’d found great “bargains” in a 150 calorie protein bar or low-fat […]

Another Great Milk Substitute

You may remember that I blogged back in July about Calorie Countdown milk, a low-carb, low calorie milk great for those on a diet. Well, at my local health food store I was looking through the various soy milks when I came upon Blue Diamond Almond Breeze. I found a vanilla version that was unsweetened […]

Fellow b5er Joins Jenny Craig

The holidays are coming up faster than we think, and it’s the season to diet (actually, most seasons are the season to diet for one reason or another). Fellow blogger Christina over at eBeautyDaily has joined Jenny Craig and has already lost 13 pounds, with another weigh-in tomorrow. Go Christina!
I must say I’m not too […]

Energy Drinks - Are They Beneficial?

Energy drinks are popping up left and right these days. Some are even low-calorie and formulated for women, such as the Tab energy drink in the pink can (which doesn’t taste like Tab, by the way). Can these drinks be part of a healthy diet?
We visited the Coke museum in Atlanta recently, and they gave […]
