Burning The Scale

Billy Watch Your Back

by noelboehm on March 7th, 2008

This past weekend I picked up a new workout DVD. I have been feeling pretty run down and just completely lacking in energy. One reason is I need to take my vitamins. Dexie and I must share the same Vitamin amnesia affliction. I manage to remind hubs to take his medicine every day but me; not a chance. Anyway the other reason I suspect is that since I have been working from home, I just am not getting the same kind of physical activity. I mean I do run up and down our hallway about 30 times a day after my son but it’s just no the same.

I though to myself, “I need an ass-kicking workout”. I thrive on punishing workouts. I want to be covered in sweat and wishing I was dead at the end of a workout. It must be the years of track, gymnastics and cheerleading. So what sprang to my mind? Billy Blanks, of course. I used to do his 8 Minute workout years ago, when I was actually in shape, and it was brutal so I knew what to expect. But OMG, I didn’t realize exactly how out of shape I was. I’m active but not high impact workout active. I knew I was in for trouble when I found myself hurling expletives repeatedly at the TV screen after the warmup. Halfway through my chest started to burn and I was close to crying. What was I thinking? Needless to say I didn’t finish the workout. I just could not do it.

I’m not giving up, don’t get me wrong. But I think I’m setting lower standards for myself. The fact that I did it is enough. I’m not auditioning to be in the background working out or something. I just need to make myself feel better. So I will do the workout again, maybe today, gulp. Until I get back in peak performance however, I will be cursing Mr. Billy.

That was so entertaining to read, albeit scary. I’m always back-and-forth between hard and easy workouts. . . the hard ones keep me away and the easy ones seem like a waste of time!
