Chew Gum, Lose Weight?

I just received the latest issue of Women’s Health and was paging through the “Weight Loss Report” when I came upon a paragraph talking about a gum that could help you lose weight.
Researchers are in the process of developing a gum that will help keep you full for longer. It will contain a hormone that causes you to feel satiated. They did a study where they gave the hormone to 10 overweight people and let them loose at a buffet. They ate 22 percent less at the buffet, and 25 percent less over the course of the next 24 hours.
No word on what the hormone actually was, but the gum will be available in 5-10 years.
The only problem I see with this gum is that we don’t always eat because we’re hungry - plenty of us (including me!) sometimes engage in mindless eating - that is, eating because it’s there and it tastes good, regardless of whether we’re hungry or not. It seems that this might be a regular occurance for some people, so for them, chewing an appetite-suppressing gum wouldn’t do the trick.
I wonder if this gum will be available over the counter, or with a prescription? Only time will tell…
