Healthy Habits Are Learned Young
There’s a lot of talk these days about teaching children how to live healthily, from eating right to playing or getting regular exercise. I believe that if these habits are instilled at a young age, they’ll continue into adulthood.
When I was younger, my parents made sure we sat down and had dinner every night, and the meals were always balanced and healthy. They bought me a few snacks, but for the most part the kitchen just had ingredients in it, not processed food. I also got a lot of exercise in, whether it was playing with my friends outside or playing soccer, tennis or softball with my dad.
Having the upbringing that I did made me more aware about nutrition and health - something that is now a hobby of mine. Although my metabolism has slowed since then and I have learned (sometimes repeatedly) that I can’t eat as much as I used to, I still appreciate my parents raising me the way they did.
It’s important to teach your children about healthy living, although I do think they go a bit too far these days. Children shouldn’t have to count calories or have trainers - but that is the predicament we’ve put ourselves in today.
What did your parents teach you about how to eat? Do you think you have the same habits today that you did then? Let me know in the comments!
