Burning The Scale

Lift With Your Legs

by noelboehm on March 28th, 2008

This weekend will be spent doing the one thing people from all walks of life dread. We’re…moving. Change is good, especially when it’s an upgrade but YECH all the packing. How do we amass such an array of crap? I found W-2’s from 1995. Seriously? The last time we moved, I spent a full week limping and groaning in pain. In my next life I’m coming back as a hobo. Everything I own will fit in a kerchief on a stick. Oh and I’ll have a flower in my cap because I’ll be a happy hobo.

With the kitchen mostly packed I had to come up with some quick meal ideas that A) Don’t require more than one pan and B) Are comprised of odds and ends left in the fridge so they won’t go bad during transport. So I made what I am now calling Spicy sesame broccoli avec Uncle Ben’s ready rice. No it doesn’t sound sexy but it was le tasty my friends. It elicited several “mmmms” and one “yummy (num-aay)” from the bug. I diced a jalapeno pepper and two garlic cloves and sauteed them in a pan with two tablespoons of garlic. Not for too long though because garlic tends to get bitter if you overcook it. I then threw in the broccoli that I cut into florets along with three tablespoons of toasted sesame oil. I tossed to make sure it was well mixed and then covered it and put it in the preheated oven (350 degrees) for about 12 minutes.

It came out a little crunchy, roasted and soft all at the same time. I spooned it over the rice with a little of the liquid from the pan and sprinkled it all with sesame seeds. One pot equals one minute cleanup. I think I will make this again and maybe add some seaweed and chicken breast next time. That’s all I got. Now excuse me while I go collapse in a corner.
