Low Carbing - Better With Company
I recently read on Jimmy Moore’s low carb blog, Livin’ La Vida Low Carb, that his wife Christine has joined him on his low carb diet. Well, this last week my fiance Matt has decided to join me also.
He’s on induction right now (less than 20g net carbs a day) and is doing great (except for one slipup, that I admit I also participated in!). He’s found induction much easier than I did and doesn’t seem to be going through withdrawals. I’ve been cooking some meals for us like low carb pizza and steaks, and he’s eating a lot of salads also.
I have to say it is much easier to have a partner to do this with me, and I would recommend it even for those of you who are eating different plans. It boosts motivation and keeps you accountable (out to dinner one night, Matt and I eyed the bread plate as it was set down, raised our eyebrows at each other and pushed it away - as if we were making a silent agreement with each other).
Feel free to post your experiences with getting your significant other to make a change with you. It may not be easy (I’ve been working on Matt for months) but it will make a big difference.

I wish I had that! I love eating healthy and make it a game to get all my veggies and avoid bad carbs, and my boyfriend just makes fun of me. He also makes fun of me for exercising and actually hid my Pilates dvd when our friends came over! I guess it doesn’t seem “punk” (he’s a musician), or cool to care about your health. He is actually very sweet, he just doesn’t understand why someone would make an effort to live healthfully. (He’s a smoker too!) I just make fun of him right back, and tell him he’s lucky he found a girl who will take care of him after he has his heart attack at 35! :)

Vanessa - Keep working on him. My fiance was actually overweight when I met him, and ate Ramen noodles all day! Until now he hasn’t had healthy habits at all. So there is hope. Oh yeah, and I wish you luck helping him quit his nasty smoking habit!

Yeah, I will. He admits to liking homecooked veggies and salads over frozen pizzas. Sounds like your fiance is lucky to have you! :)

Good to hear he likes some healthy things. Yeah, well, I hope Matt is lucky to have me and I don’t nag him too much! Ha! ;)
