Please, No More Caffeine In My Diet Pepsi!

PepsiCo has released a new soda just in time for summer. Diet Pepsi Max is an “invigorating” cola with ginseng and 69 mg caffeine per can - 1/3 more than in Mountain Dew. Apparently targeted at 25-34 year olds, it will give you the boost of energy to get things done during the day.
Of course I had to buy it - but didn’t want to waste my money on a 12-pack in case it wasn’t any good. We bought a 12-oz bottle of it (I’m pretty sure these won’t always be available, it was just a promo) and I asked my fiance to share it with me, so I wouldn’t be wired!

The Taste
On first sip this was very, VERY sweet. If I had to make a comparison, I’d say it’s like the Pepsi version of Coke Zero. Now, this may be good for some, but I rather like the taste of Diet Pepsi and would have preferred they’d stayed with it. I guess the original Pepsi-lovers will enjoy this drink.

The Nutrition
Zero calories, as always. And as is the trend right now for “designer” sodas, it’s sweetened with a blend of aspartame and Ace-K (acesulfame potassium). The caffeine is 69 mg, like I said. I don’t know about you, but excess caffeine doesn’t give me energy, it makes me a jittery mess!

Oh, and for those worried about the sodium benzoate scare (some were saying that preservative PepsiCo uses could cause diseases) they’ve
switched to potassium benzoate. Let’s see ‘em try to find something wrong with that!

I don’t like Pepsi or Diet Pepsi to begin with, so I don’t know if I would give it a try. Maybe my husband would though, as when he chooses a soda, Pepsi is his choice.

Now, Diet Coke has their new Diet Coke Plus, and I really like it. I don’t notice any taste difference, and I like the fact that my daily habit is now, well maybe, a little better for me.

At the moment, I can barely keep my eyes open so maybe this stuff is worth checking out. Caffeine doesn’t seem to do anything to me, so many the ginsing would give me the boost I need. Or maybe I simply need a nap! ;) Putting in on the shopping list.

    :)

SP - Diet Pepsi Max should definitely give you a boost. Post and let me know how you liked it!

Dear God I love Diet Pepsi Max!!! I am a diabetic, so diet sodas are a must for me to begin with. “The Max” (as we call it at my workplace) not only tastes great, it reduces the actual amount of liquid I must buy and consume to get my required caffeine. In other words, where I’d normally be drinking 2 Diet Pepsis, I now drink 1 Max. Good deal in my opinion! ;)

Chris, I guess I just enjoy the act of drinking my Diet Pepsi that I would hate to have to drink less of it :) I’m glad it’s a good deal for you though. I’d probably end up drinking the same amount and getting really buzzed on caffeine ;)
