South Beach Check-In: Week 4
Well, it is my 4th week on the South Beach diet and I think it’s going really well. Aside from weight loss, I noticed that my cravings are much more manageable now that I’m not restricting “all” carbs. Also, if I do happen to eat something off plan, my weight doesn’t spike up like it would if I was on Atkins. My body has learned to tolerate carbs again, without retaining water in the process.
That said, I lost 1 pound this week. I consider that a victory given it was that time of the month, and I always retain water like crazy. I actually went up 1 pound then lost that one plus another one. I’m less than 15 pounds from my goal - so I’m excited! I also lost .5 inches in my waist this week. Maybe it’s true that on SB, you really do “lose belly fat first.”
This week, I plan to continue my exercise and try to up my water intake. I admit I’ve been sticking mostly to Diet Coke and the occasional cup of juice or seltzer.

Yes, be sure to get normal water intake during exercise. Be careful of fad diets in general. You need to either increase exercise or decrease intake or both. There are natural ways to decrease appetite.
