Give Up Diet Soda, Lose Weight?

MSNBC has an interesting article online right now about 9 strategies to lose weight that were tested on a sample of people, and how much on average was lost. One of the tips that caught my eye was to stop drinking all soda, including diet.
Now, we all know sugary sodas are bad for you. They’re […]

Programs Expanded To Combat Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is at an all-time high. With kids increasingly sedentary (MySpace, video games) and eating high-fat, high-carb diets, government programs such as We Can! (stands for Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition) are being expanded.
We Can! is a 2-year initiative that puts the majority of the responsibility on the shoulders of the parents. […]

The Obesity Epidemic Is Over?

Sounds crazy, but I just read this article over at CBS News online. Apparently the incidence of obese - not overweight - women and men has not significantly increased since 1999-2000.

Sound reasonable? Just listen to what he has to […]

Health Benefits To Being Slightly Heavy

An article at MSNBC made my head spin - Could there be some health benefits to being slightly heavy, i.e. around 25 pounds overweight? Apparently overweight (not obese) folks are more likely to survive illnesses such as pneumonia and emphysema. However, they are still more likely to die from kidney disease and diabetes.
I’m wondering if […]

Obesity Is Rampant In The South

You can imagine how thrilled I was to see this data come out about each state’s percentage of obese folks. Tennessee ranks fifth - with 27.8 percent of the state being obese. Mississippi takes the cake (no pun intended) with 30.6 percent.
It’s no lie that here in the South we like our fried chicken and […]

Diet Pills Abound!

I went into GNC today in my local mall to have a look around - sometimes I see or read about a supplement I want to buy, so it never hurts to look. However, what caught my eye were the shelves and shelves of one diet pill after another (they even had boxes of Alli).
Years […]
