An article at MSNBC made my head spin - Could there be some health benefits to being slightly heavy, i.e. around 25 pounds overweight? Apparently overweight (not obese) folks are more likely to survive illnesses such as pneumonia and emphysema. However, they are still more likely to die from kidney disease and diabetes.

When it comes to losing weight, I’ve always thought of 1200 calories as the magic number. It’s the number not to go below, so I’ve always equated it with the maximum amount of weight lost. However, this “magic number” can vary from person to person depending on activity level, weight, age, etc.

A researcher in Iowa is studying an often-missed eating disorder similar to bulimia called purging disorder.
Sufferers often purge, or make themselves sick, after eating small to normal amounts of food. That’s different from bulimia in that bulimics usual binge on hundreds to thousands of calories before purging. The sufferers are also of normal weight.
