The Biggest Loser Bans Bottled Water & Giveaway

Hey all. Well, the new season of The Biggest Loser is right around the corner on New Year’s Day. This time people will be losing weight in pairs - husbands and wives, best friends, mothers and sons or daughters, etc. One thing they are also introducing this season is a ban on bottled water. The Biggest Loser is trying to be more friendly to the planet, and drinking bottled water creates a huge amount of waste - for instance, last year Americans threw out $1 billion worth of plastic.
The good news is you can start reducing waste at home, too. I’ve got three Brita faucet mounts and three reusable Filter For Good bottles that I’m giving away (I’ll be shipping them after Christmas). I’ll randomly pick three of the commenters on this post to receive them.
In the meantime, you can go to the Filter For Good website and take a pledge to reduce bottled water waste. And if you don’t win an FFG bottle in my giveaway, you can buy one and the proceeds will go to the Blue Planet Run Foundation, a nonprofit organization working to provide 200 million people with a lifetime’s worth of drinking water by 2027.
So leave a comment at the bottom between now and December 27th. It doesn’t matter what you say, but please no duplicate comments, or they will be ignored.
Good luck!
Claire

The companies that have made fortunes selling bottled tap water must be beside themselves with rage! Filtering one’s own water is the only sensible (and responsible) thing to do given the environmental impact the bottled stuff has.

Great idea! I’ve used a Britta pitcher for years too. The cost to your pocket to replace the filter is much less than always buying bottled water, takes up less room in your fridge…not to mention the added benefit for the planet.
Thanks for posting this and reminding everyone.

I have always been a huge nalgene fan. I bring them to the gym every day… even though i feel weird because everyone else uses disposable bottles. Maybe we can convince more people to reuse!

I actually put a re-usable water bottle on my Christmas list this year - so I got a great stainless steel one I’ve already started using. I ordered a second one for myself. My sister saw the suggestion - got one for herself and ordered one for a nephew as a gift. As a family it would be great to see how many bottles we’ve saved! And the water tastes great!

Awesome idea! I am a teacher and have two small children. The amount of plastic containers and wrappers that I see thrown away on a daily basis is sickening. I’m glad to see that you are taking a stand to better the environment for our future!

This is such a great idea. It is about time that we teach our children more about saving the environment at the same time we are trying to teach them about the importance of water for their bodies. All of our children think soda is the way. Thank you!!

i am pledging to myself to lose 30 pounds in no less than 3 months. i am going to drink the 8-10 glasses of water a day. I do not have a filter, so this is a great idea! I rarely drink water, do not buy water so the bottle is a great way to MAKE you drink it! Take it everywhere you go! I want to get healthy for me and my children! Hats off to a great 2008!!!

Awesome Idea to have The Biggest Loser promote this idea. I haven’t bought a case of water in months and would desperatly love to have a nice water bottle to reuse. I keep buying one but they always seem to leak so I have to start over.

Way to go! I’ve used a Britta pitcher for the last 12 or so years and then fill a thermos for travel and insulated mug. Nice to see how much can be saved by doing so little! My weakness is soda in plastic because it’s resealable. Still haven’t figured a way around it but I haven’t given up!

A great idea. Filtering your own water and knowing how fresh it really is and where it came from is a winner. I haven’t found a bottled water that is good.

My family and I drink so much water and I’m gald to see that others are trying to make a difference on a higher level. I watch the biggest loser every season so that I can stay motivated to help my mother become healthier. I hope that with me as a good example that she will start to see how important it is to me to have her here for a long time. Thank you for the support!

What a unqiue idea !! I need to drink more water and this has inspired me to be more conscience about my water in take. And knowing I can get filtered water from my own faucet will make this alot easier. I watch The Biggest Loser and it has really made me think about my health.

I watched Biggest Loser tonight and thought that it was very inspiring. This is such a great idea and I would love to have a Brita filter. I buy bottled water often but this option is so much more beneficial to the environment.

It is funny…. the water I buy is made of a “thinner” plastic bottle to be environment friendly. This just takes it to the next level. I am always conscious of the fact that I won’t like the taste of water unless it comes from a little bottle… i think I can change my ways!

I’m a rabid biggest loser fan and was so inspired by the Brita water bottle idea. I am amazed how many water bottles I find thrown in the trash at work.I’m going to ask my boss if we can get a Brita system so we can start using the green bottles too. GO GREEN!!!

That’s a great idea. I know my mother (I’m 13) and I use a case of water (24 bottles) of water a week. We recycle though, but I think the filters and bottles would help save us money and the planet. Again, great idea!

I watched the first episode of Biggest Loser and it inspired me so much that, I signed up to do the Nation shape up. I really get a lot of inspiration from everyone on these shows. Plus. I started drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day and I can already see a difference.

We take too much for granted thanks for making me aware of what I can do to eliminate adding to already full land fills. The stats mentioned on Biggest Loser were EYE OPENING!
