Burning The Scale

The Legacy Of The Bowflex

by Claire on June 27th, 2007

Even though I’m a woman and I don’t build muscle easily, I’m really into weight training. My last gym had a huge array of free weights and weight machines that were at my disposal, and I took advantage of them 3-4 days of the week. However, we recently moved to an apartment in downtown Knoxville, and the gym here is a little lacking - built more for cardio, which I loathe.
My birthday is coming up this July, and my parents agreed to get me a Bowflex. These machines have been around for some time, are well built and reliable, and I’ve wanted one for years. The one I asked for is called the Motivator 2:

It’s priced reasonably at $600, and includes leg attachments (some home gyms are built for upper body only, but my legs are scrawny and need some muscle). The resistance goes up to 210 pounds, which should be plenty for me, given that the most I’ve ever used is around 90.
The order was placed last week, so I should be receiving it any day now. I’ll be sure to post an update after I’ve been using it awhile.
I can’t recommend weight training enough. I find it more interesting - and challenging - than cardio, and it’s satisfying to see the progress you’re making week by week.
Which do you like better - weight training or cardio? Feel free to post and let me know!
